Transmitter is pleased to present ANAHITA, a solo exhibition and participatory installation by Iranian-American artist Amy Rose Khoshbin, curated by Lila Nazemian.

Drawing from Anahita, the ancient Persian goddess associated with water, healing, fertility, and wisdom, Khoshbin transforms the gallery into a contemporary sanctuary where grief, play, ritual, and collective release become intertwined.

Rooted in a fragmented cultural inheritance, ANAHITA draws from Persian and Zoroastrian mythology alongside Khoshbin’s own experiences of queer embodiment, illness, and grief. Taking shape amid the protracted  war with Iran, the exhibition turns toward ritual and material culture as living forms of knowledge, asking what they might offer in a present shaped by displacement, violence, ecological collapse, and loss.

Through collage, sculpture, performance, textiles, and participatory ritual, Khoshbin brings inherited histories into contact with contemporary bodies and imagined futures. At its center, the sculptural work Anahita’s Grief Tent serves as a site for gathering, play, divination, and catharsis.

Evolving through performance and audience participation over the course of its run, ANAHITA treats grief as water seeking movement, play as a form of agency, and ritual as a space for transformation.

ARTIST BIO: 

Amy Rose Khoshbin is an Iranian-American artist based in New York and Los Angeles. Working across installation, performance, social practice, sculpture, video, and collage, she builds participatory worlds where sensory experience becomes a path toward liberatory futures. Her work has been presented at the Whitney Museum, the Guggenheim Museum, the Brooklyn Museum, Times Square Arts, Crystal Bridges, Artpace, the High Line, and festivals including SXSW and River to River. Residencies include the Watermill Center, LMCC, Anderson Ranch, Project for Empty Space, and the Banff Centre, and received awards from NYFA, Franklin Furnace, and Rema Hort Mann. Khoshbin holds an MFA from NYU. She has collaborated with Laurie Anderson, Karen Finley, Anne Carson, and more.
